Tony Campagna
Although few people could consider him a late bloomer, Tony Campagna didn't start bowling until the age of 21 when his coworker, Don Gale, asked him to join the shop league. He immediately fell in love with the sport and began to excel shortly thereafter.
Tony shot his first 300 in 1979 and has since had 9 others in a variety of cities across Michigan. Besides shooting four 800's (including 837 in Red Triangle A league roll off), he won the 1991 Lakeshore Masters, a Moose Lodge state title, and four Muskegon City Tournament titles. Tony consistently averaged over 200 for decades, with his highest average of 223 occurring in 2003.
In compiling multiple tournament victories and honor scores over 30 years, Tony was known as a very tough competitor in head to head competition. The husky, deep voiced bowler would cast fear in the best of tournament bowlers. However, his good natured jokes and quick wit make everyone laugh as his many friends would attest. For example, when asked about his greatest bowling achievement, Tony quickly replied, "I haven't bowled my 900 series yet!". Obviously, his bowling scores will continue to remind us why he is a well deserved and welcomed addition to the Greater Muskegon Hall of Fame.
