Rob Werner
Rob Werner was eight years old when his father Carl began taking him to the old Maple Lanes on Sunday mornings to bowl. Rob enjoyed it so much, he joined a junior bowling league at Bob Hi Lanes. It was then that Rob started making himself known in the Muskegon bowling community.
The 1974-75 bowling season was very special for Rob. He threw his first of four career 300 games that year, a moment he is proud to call his finest in bowling. Only 12 perfect games had been thrown in the history of the GMBA up to that point. Rob threw a 763 series that year, earning the Chronicle Award for high actual series in the GMBA. To top it all off, Rob went out and averaged 212 that year, a city record at the time.
Over the time, Rob has seen his fair share of high scores. In addition to his four 300 games, Rob has a 299, and touts a career high series of 790. He hasn't slowed down much, either. It was in 2000 when Rob carried his highest average of 220.
While Rob may be an excellent bowler during the "Regular season", he's equally impressive when tournament time rolls around. Rob has been a member of the city tournament's actual team championships three times, in 1975, 81 and again in 1983. He won the all events handicap, doubles handicap and actual, as well as the singles handicap and actual titles in 1986. But perhaps the most impressive of his triumphs are the six actual doubles titles Rob has been a part of. Five of those titles were won with the help of his brothers, John and Ron. It seems a sense of brotherly love can be found on the lanes with the Werner family. This year, Rob and Ron managed to shoot a 1320 actual, not too shabby after all. After all these years, Rob says he has enjoyed every single minute of bowling, and there has never been a bad feeling towards the sport. With all the success, fun, and time spent with family on the lanes, can you really blame him?
Welcome to the Hall, Rob, you certainly deserve it.
