Paul A. Goranson Sr.
Working as a pin boy in 1927, Paul showed his potential bowling ability by rolling a 288 game, at the tender age of 15. He continued bowling for the next fifty years and was one of the best around. He competed in 12 ABC Tournaments and numerous State events. In 1947 , bowling with Smitty's Blatz Beer team in the Michigan State Tourney, Paul shot 651 to pace his team to a runner up spot behind the world famous Stroths Beer team from Detroit. While bowling in the ABC Tournament, in Chicago in 1953, his 278 game won him a bronze medal and was named king for a day. He also took home a bag full of silver dollars for his feat. In 1948 he rolled the second 300 game in the association, 25 years after the first in 1923. He was the GMBA "Bowler of the Year" in 1949 which resulted in the Tournament schedule book being dedicated to him. He has bowed on five teams which have finished first in the City Tournament, four of them in a row from 1951 through 1954. In 1950 he teamed with Pete Markavitch for the City Doubles title and in 1951, took the City All-Events title with a 1805 total. In 1975 Paul rolled a 274 game which was high in the City Tournament. His highest average was 192, in 1940 and his all time high series was 696.
