Lucian "Lutz" Majeski

A young man of 18 started his bowling career at the old Lincoln Lanes on Western Avenue in 1939. Fifty-seven years later you still find him bowling in two leagues - at Northway and Muskegon Lanes. While honing his skills as a bowler, he still found time to volunteer as a league officer. He might tell you that baseball and golf were often more important but bowling was always there to fall back on and that's where he made his mark. He was a better than average bowler, carrying a high of 190 with a 668 high series and in 1996, rolling his high game of 279. (You see what years of practice can do!) He earned titles in the Muskegon Class A Actual Doubles and the State Elks Tournament, also in actual doubles. He recently took part in his 50th M.S.B.A. tournament and has 28 A.B.C. tournaments to his credit.

His knowledge of the game got him elected to the G.M.B.A. board of directors in 1958 and in 1968 became it's president. During his term as president he was elected to the M.S.B.A. board of directors and served as Zone Director for the West Michigan area. He became president of the M.S.B.A. in 1978 and both he and his wife, Ruth Majeski, served the state associations as presidents. During the last six years of their marriage, they both served as secretaries of their respective local associations, as Lutz took over for the men with the passing of Carl Krueger in 1976. Other local bowling activities that have benefited from his knowledge and expertise were the local Junior Bowling Association, the Captain-Sponsor Committee and the Handicapped Children's Bowling program, to name a few. Lutz has received two awards from the M.S.B.A.- in 1983 the schedule book was dedicated to him and in 1984 received the Meritorious Service Award. He has given much to the game of bowling! Thanks, Lutz.
