Clare Daniels

From the time she started bowling as a child in a church basement in Chicago through the time she served as president of the Greater Muskegon Women's Bowling Association, right up to today as she continues to be involved in our great sport. Clare can be described with one word - DEDICATION!.

Yes, Clare did start her bowling career in a church basement in Chicago, kept at it through high school and into league play after high school. She loves all sports and encourages participation and involvement on all levels. She preaches good sportsmanship and shows it by being a great role model. Clare was quite an all around athlete in her early years-member of a corporate championship softball team and a CYO basketball All-Star guard, while still living in Chicago.

She has been very involved in many areas of Muskegon Bowling over the years. She has been a member of the Greater Muskegon Women's Bowling Association for over 50 years, serving as its president from 1953 to 1965, and became its first life member. During her tenure as president, Clare worked diligently to increase the GMWBA membership and encourage league officers to participate in training workshops. She also worked hard to modernize office procedures. Working with her board, she helped to revise the by-laws of the GMWBA, one being the limiting the time the president can serve. She is very proud of the progress the women's association made during her time in office.

Clare was very involved in junior bowling, working with GMBA secretary, and Hall of Famer Carl Krueger, in 1965, to form the junior bowling association. She helped that group as a certified junior bowling instructor and worked with the juniors for many years. She was also an original member of the popular Captain-Sponsor committee, serving on that committee over 30 years.

Clare has also served as a national and state delegate to those conventions for many years. Because she cared about Muskegon bowlers and the bowling community, she was instrumental in encouraging the Michigan State Women's Bowling Association to hold their state tournament in Muskegon to help the area overcome the economic impact of the Norge Company move from the area and the resulting job loss.

Whether it's just bowling or serving any way she can, Clare has given a large part of her life to the Muskegon Bowling community and is truly deserving of being in the Greater Muskegon Bowling Hall of Fame. Welcome!
