Chuck Majeski
When Bill and Florence Majeski first got their son, Chuck, in bowling at the ripe old age of nine, little did they realize he would turn into the smooth-stroking, power bowler he is today. Watching Championship bowling and the PBA Tournament on Saturday TV was all Chuck wanted to do, so mom and dad thought it was best to let him bowl. It definitely was a good choice as it was the starting point that led to Chuck's spot in the Hall of Fame. A spot well deserved.
At age eleven, Chuck started league bowling in the AJBC, which is now YABA. He got a lot of support along the way from Ted and Vi DeMos at Michigan lanes, Larry and Jean Kowalski at Maple lanes and Ed and Jean Inglatt also from Maple lanes. They saw Chuck had a future in bowling and gave him every opportunity to improve his game. Chuck was involved in junior bowling until he graduated from high school. He didn't bowl leagues while in college from 1977-1980, but after college was another story.
Chuck's accomplishment's, both individual and team oriented are many. His individual statistics to date are:
Seventeen 300 games- his latest one rolled on January 24, 2002. Six 299 games- the last one November 14, 1999. One 298 game- at the 1991 ABC National Tournament (Toledo, Ohio) First game of the team event. Six 800 series- his highest being 817 rolled on February 27,1994.
Up to and including the 2000-01 season, Chuck captured the GMBA season High Average Award eight times, with his highest being 229 during the 1988-89 season.
Chuck has rolled the GMBA Season High Series (Muskegon Chronicle Award) three times in his illustrious career. Chuck has also won many tournament titles including the GMBA City Tournament Actual Singles event in 1990 with a 703 score, the 1988 Actual All events title with a 2041 total, and the Carl Krueger Memorial Award for tournament high game twice, in 1988 with a 290 game and again in 1985 with one of his 300's.
Chuck says individual awards are nice, and he has had many, but team awards are more fulfilling. Chuck has been on teams that have won four Actual Team event titles in the GMBA Association City Tournaments, 1982, 1986, 1996 and 2001. That 2001 team (Strikers Domain) set the all-time city tournament team series record of 3363 total pins. But Chucks proudest moment also came in 2001, on February 13. Chuck was part of the Booth's Radiator team from the Red Triangle "A" League that set the GMBA record for game with 1366and series with 3661. In the 1366 game (which tied the existing state record) Chuck rolled a 258 game, also leading the team in series with a 783.
Chuck comes from a bowling family. His Aunt, Ruth Majeski , and Uncle Lucian Majeski, are also members of the Hall of Fame. Over the years, Chuck has bowled with many of our Hall of Fame members including, Bill Liefer, Bud LaBarge, Clyde McKentry and Dick Maus. For all of his accomplishments, we welcome Chuck Majeski to join his peers in the Greater Muskegon Bowling Hall of Fame.
