Barney Eagan

Barney's involvement in bowling began in 1959 in Clio, a small town north of Flint. He didn't know how much he would enjoy being involved with the service side of bowling until he was elected to the Clio - Montrose Bowling Association Board of Directors in 1975. Barney held this position until 1979 when he moved from the area.

After moving to Ravenna in 1982, Barney was asked to join the GMBA Board of Directors. Following the 1985-86 season he was elected to the Board and his service to bowling in the Muskegon area took full flight. Barney became president of the GMBA in 1996. After his tenure was over he returned to the board for another year and a half because of his love for serving fellow bowlers.

While on the GMBA Board of Directors, Barney accomplished many items he set out to do. Barney was Director of the year twice while on the board. He is most proud of being instrumental in helping start the Greater Muskegon Bowling Hall of Fame. While many others before him had the idea to form the Hall of Fame, it was Barney's persistence, with the help and blessing of the board, to get the ball rolling on forming our Hall of Fame. Barney has been Chairman of the Selection Committee since it's inception, a post he is very proud to hold. When talk of having a weekly radio show on bowling surfaced, Barney was asked by the Board of Directors if he would like to do the show, he gladly accepted.

As if Barney didn't have enough to do with serving bowlers, he got himself elected as Zone 5 Director for the Michigan State Bowling Association in 1995. He continues to serve the bowlers on the State level in that capacity. Barney has been a squad sponsor for the men's state tournament for many years, as well as, sponsoring squads to the Peterson Classic for 20 years.

Barney has had his share of success on the lanes, also. His career high game is 289, he has a high series of 754, and his highest average over the years is 209. Barney is a welcome addition to the Greater Muskegon Bowling Hall of Fame.
